cuinlalaland

My real name is Doug, I’m a 31 year old guy living in Canada. I’ve been mostly self-employed since finishing school and have run all kinds of little businesses. Most recently I was a full-time real estate investor but with the changes in the market I decided it was getting a bit too stressful and time-consuming for my liking. So I went out and got the most mind-numbing job I could think of…cleaning. As a result it didn’t take long for me to start feeling the need to create and share so I started visiting City-Data’s relationship forum (not the usual place I would hang out) and met a bunch of cool (and some crazy) people there.

About 6 weeks later I started to get the itch to own more property only this time it was for the online space variety. I thought it would be nice to have a slightly more centralized place to gather my thoughts and ideas to share with a larger audience. And so cuinlalaland was born. In retrospect this was probably not the best way to go about starting a blog and that thought is confirmed in Chris Guillebeau‘s manifesto 279 Days to Overnight Success, which I highly recommend as a read for anyone considering writing, blogging, or otherwise creating online. His suggestion to have a sizable collection of written content ready before you launch is a great idea so you have some material to fall back on when you get too busy to write or have a lapse in inspiration.

For me what’s done is done and with followers beginning to trickle in I don’t want to take the site down for a few months while I build up a reserve, I’ll just have to wing it for awhile! Hope you don’t mind ;)

What You can Expect

I’m not locked into a schedule but I do plan on posting about 3 times a week. You can follow each update by RSS, email updates or just by visiting this site. My interests vary with time and this site will reflect that but I will be writing a lot about…

  • Personal Development and generally making your life better, simpler and happier.
  • Relationships and advice for improving your interactions and the lives of those around you.
  • Entrepreneurship and money matters including insight on what I’ve learned to do and not to do over the last 13 years working for myself.

My Intentions…are honorable, I promise.

My hope is to build a large collection of content that you will find useful and inspiring in roughly equal measure and will be able to return to again and again for years to come. A place that you trust and feel compelled to share with your friends and followers. And a community you love to participate in.

That’s it for now, enjoy your stay, and don’t forget to contact me!
